Relieving poverty through access to appliances
E-Hawk exists so that a lack of money never means going without the everyday household appliances people rely on to cook, clean, and live comfortably. Here's who we are, how we operate, and how we stay accountable.
Our story
E-Hawk began with a simple observation: perfectly usable appliances were being thrown away in one part of the city, while families a few blocks over couldn't afford a microwave or kettle for their kitchen. We started collecting medium-sized household appliances like microwaves, toasters, kettles, fans, and lamps, refurbishing what we could and recovering parts from the rest.
Today we pursue a mission the Canada Revenue Agency recognizes as charitable: the relief of poverty. By putting affordable and free appliances into people's hands, we help relieve financial pressure while keeping bulky e-waste out of the landfill.

We serve people with respect, never stigma. Access to a working home is a matter of fairness.

E-waste is the fastest-growing waste stream on earth. We keep working appliances in homes and out of the ground.
Community rooted
What we collect locally is refurbished and redistributed locally, right here in Windsor.
Our legal status
E-Hawk is a registered Canadian charity recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency for the relief of poverty. Every eligible donation receives an official charitable tax receipt, and we report our activities openly to our community each year.
How we're funded
Like many early-stage non-profits, we may run at a deficit and rely on the generosity of grants and donors. Support comes from a mix of sources, including:
- Community foundation grants
- Government sustainability initiatives (e.g. Zero Plastic Waste)
- Local business & employer partners
- Individual donors and monthly givers
Safety, quality & transparency
Reuse only works if it's safe and trustworthy. Here's how we hold ourselves accountable.
Cleaning & electrical safety
Every appliance is cleaned, functionally tested, and checked for electrical safety before it is reused, with documentation available to donors on request.
Responsible reuse practices
We follow responsible-recycling and reuse practices modelled on R2v3, including functional testing and safe parts recovery.
Transparent reporting
We track appliances collected, refurbished, and redistributed, and share progress openly with donors, volunteers, and funders.
